Extension of the Archeological Museum of Polygyros | Open Exhibit
The proliferation of displayable archeological findings and a significant donation meant that a design for an extension of the Archaeological Museum of Polygyros needed to be made. The design proceeded on the basis of a syntax under conditions adhering to the strict design principles of the Modern Movement, as these are reflected on the existing building designed by Dimitris Fatouros.
Syntax under conditions:
– A set of clear, enclosed rectangular volumes, no longer borne by the grid used as a basis for the existing building, but extended (on a ground with new coordinates and at different heights) as a distinguished supplement to its rationale;
– Creation of clear directions both at ground-floor level and at the halls and warehouses at basement level;
– Satisfaction of the need to open up displayability by means of a transparent hall, a characteristic section which does not, however, overshadow the exhibits.
