Joachim Rigelnatz Siedlung Süd, Residential Complex, Marzahn. 1st Prize, Architectural Design Competition | Appropriate Divergence
The architectural competition aims at the supplementary extension, to the south, of the Joachim Ringelnatz housing complex (369 residencies), in Berlin. Guiding the project is the search for the appropriate divergence from the firm and obvious rule that governed the structure of the housing complex, as well as the question of what form the end of the slightly-curved, yet clear-cut, axis/course traversing the complex is to take.
Five building blocks (125 new residencies) are arrayed as an open end: two of them (linear in type) as barriers thwarting the flow of regularity; the other three (cubic volumes of equal size) as the final filter through which the movements and tensions related to the dominant axis are distributed.
